Newman Catholic College – Vancouver Exchange: Day 7

Date: 1 July 2026 (Wednesday)

Day 7 – Canada Day & HKSAR Establishment Day

What an incredible coincidence! Today, we got to celebrate two special occasions on the exact same day — Canada Day and the HKSAR Establishment Day — making this a truly unforgettable experience for our Newman family!

Morning – Canada Day Carnival at Canada Place
We headed straight to the heart of the action at Canada Place, where the city was buzzing with patriotic pride! Our students soaked up the festive vibe — live music, street performances, delicious food trucks, and crowds dressed head-to-toe in red and white. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience firsthand how Canadians celebrate their national day with joy, unity, and lots of maple leaf spirit!

Afternoon – Honouring Our Roots in Chinatown
To mark our own HKSAR Establishment Day, we visited Vancouver's historic Chinatown and the serene Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Surrounded by traditional architecture and peaceful greenery, our students took a moment to reflect on our heritage and pay tribute to Dr. Sun Yat Sen — a visionary who inspired generations. It was a beautiful reminder of where we come from, even as we explore the world.

Night – Fireworks with Host Families
And the celebrations didn't end there! Some of our students were treated to a spectacular fireworks display by their wonderful host families.
