This morning's English Friday assembly was a vibrant and inspiring celebration of literacy centered on the theme "NCC R.R.R.R: Read, Run, Reflect, Rejoice". Tied closely to our annual SOW Campaign, "SOW the Reading Seed – Discover as You Read," the event beautifully integrated English language development with essential values education. Embracing the empowering sub-themes "Dream Big, Read Bigger" and "Wisdom Unites, Stories Connect," student representatives from every class confidently took to the stage in the Upper Hall to share a book that has deeply enlightened them. Utilising the structured "SEE, THINK, ME, WE" reflection framework, these students shared thoughtful personal insights that clearly demonstrated how literature fosters critical thinking, empathy, and positive life attitudes. Following their speeches, students participated in a collaborative activity, proudly affixing their creative writing cutouts onto the large poster boards displayed on stage. This memorable gathering not only showcased students' impressive English public-speaking skills but also brought the whole school community together to celebrate mutual respect, inspiration, and a shared love of reading. We started off the assembly with a book reading from 3C Isobel Mok giving her raging book review on the book ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio. After, we swiftly invited students to share a book they have read recently, what this book made them ‘think’, ‘how that thought affects ‘themselves’ and how the book affects ‘we’ as a whole. There were many insightful stories ranging from the book ‘The Little Prince’ and its thoughts on how adults often lose their innocence, to the infamous ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Lego Book’ how it can inspire imagination for all. This week was a great week where students showcased books they have read recently and how it has inspired them.
